PRINTFEST 2008, A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL EVENT

Printfest 2008, held in Ulverston on the 2nd - 4th May has been hailed a great success. The standard of work was very high and the range of techniques, styles, colours and topics delighted the 1300 visitors to the event. This was reflected in the record number of sales by artists and the smiles on the face of many satisfied customers. It was an opportunity for Ulverston to welcome back many printmaking friends and a chance to welcome new visitors to the event and enjoy work not previously presented in this area.

The workshops for children were extremely popular with over 60 children attending and creating some excellent work. The hard work and detailed preparation by Tania was much appreciated by parents and children alike who were able to understand the collograph technique and create their own masterpieces.

This year also saw the introduction of a masterclass with talented students of secondary school age which was led by Simon Ripley. The students were extremely keen to learn from such a talented printmaker and rewarded him by themselves producing a very high standard of work.

Tina Balmer, who took over as Printfest Director this year, has succeeded in maintaining the high standards of the event and introduced new improved measures such as separate wrapping and artist areas. She was particularly delighted with the interest in the work of Angie Lewin , voted the first Printmaker of the Year in association with Printmaking Today.

The Committee are taking a months break before preparations begin for Printfest 2009. However, rather than being a break they are all busy with other things. Janice has just been heavily involved with the International Music Festival in the town and Tania, Ronkey and Kerynne are exhibiting with Tina in her house as part of the North West Art Trail during June - please email if you would like details of opening times.
