PRINTFEST 2008 ARTISTS ANNOUNCED

The line-up of artists for Printfest 2008, the visual arts festival of original contemporary printmaking, held in Ulverston on 2nd - 4th May has been announced and organisers are predicting this will be the biggest and best Printfest ever.

Festival Director, Tina Balmer said "We have a wonderful range of artists coming to Printfest this year and with 36 printmakers attending this will be the biggest Printfest ever!" Not only printmakers will be new this year. Tina Balmer herself takes over from Ronkey Bullard , as Festival Director. Tina comes to Ulverston after many years of working in the art scene in Brighton and will bring a wealth of contacts and new ideas to Printfest. In turn Ronkey now has time to create her own prints and will be exhibiting at Printfest for the first time in many years.

Leading the list of exhibitors will be Angie Lewin , who was voted Printmaker of the Year earlier in 2008, following a search for a printmaker who combined expert printmaking skills with highly diverse yet accessible and engaging subject matter. This search was lead by Printmaking Today , the UK's leading quarterly publication for printmakers and collectors of graphic art, in association with Printfest.

Tina predicts an exciting future for Printfest and Arts Council North West indicated their support for this unique event with a small grant for marketing costs. This is especially encouraging when the grant is set against the trend for funding reductions from the Arts Council in 2008.
